Question 1: Should I have my periodontal disease treated by my general dentist or a periodontist?
A: It is always recommended to have both involved in the diagnosis and treatment of your periodontal disease. Together, they can construct a treatment plan that will return your gums to good health.
Question 2: Can children suffer from periodontal disease?
A: It is rare for a child, or even adolescents, to suffer from gum disease. That being said, your children and teenagers should still learn how important the health of their mouth is. Good oral hygiene habits are formed at a young age and carry over to when we are adults.
Question 3:What type of health problems stem from periodontal disease?
A: Periodontal disease is associated with many diseases, including: cardiovascular disease, diabetes, heart disease, pancreatic cancer, and many more!
Question 4: Is periodontal disease contagious?
A: Technically, no. However, the bacteria that causes periodontal disease can be spread from one person to another through their saliva. This means, if you know someone who has periodontal disease, try not to drink after them, use the same utensils as them, and avoid using the same oral health equipment.
