Smoking is one of the worst habits you can develop for your oral and overall health. Smoking can cause tooth staining, an increase in plaque and tartar build up, gum disease, and increases your chances of developing oral cancer.

First, you should try to relax more and ease your stress. One of the biggest reasons that people smoke is to relieve their stress. If you can manage your stress levels, it may be a powerful tool in enabling you to stop smoking. Some methods to relieve stress are receiving a massage, listening to relaxing music, doing some yoga, or spending some time in meditation.
Second, you should try to recognize other triggers of smoking. Some people want to smoke after they have consumed alcohol or have eaten a meal. If this is the case for you, you should try to abstain from alcoholic beverages, or make sure you do not have any cigarettes available while you are consuming alcohol. In the event you want to smoke after a meal, you should try to find a substitute like chewing gum, a snack, or a tasty desert.
