A sinus lift is a procedure that we do in the back upper jaw when people lose their teeth in the back on the top jaw because there's a sinus up there. A sinus is an area where there's just air in there and there's not enough bone to place the implant. So what we do is we access the sinus floor and we raise it up a little bit and we place some bone grafting into that area. And we are usually able to put the implant in that same day.
So if a person wants to have teeth in the back of their jaw and they have a sinus pneumatization, if they have a place where the sinus is close to where the bone is in the back, you can't put an implant in there because there's not enough bone back there. So many people, the only way they can have bone, implants, or teeth in the top jaw, in the back, is to have a sinus lift. It's become a very common procedure that we do often and we . . . it's very successful. The most successful bone graft that we do is a sinus lift procedure.
