Flossing tends to be overlooked in many people’s dental hygiene routine. Although brushing is important, it is not enough to completely remove the bacteria from your mouth. In order to keep your gums and teeth healthy, flossing is an important component.

The American Dental Association (ADA) states that over 500 types of bacteria are found in plaque. Not all of these bacterias are harmful, but, when coupled with the other bacteria that can get in between your teeth from food and drinks, you are increasing the likelihood of cavities and tooth decay.

Cavities are not the only thing that can occur when you do not floss. Gum disease can also be an issue when bacteria is left between your teeth and gum.

Flossing and brushing your teeth two times per day is important for the health of your gums and teeth. Some dental diseases do not just affect your mouth, but also your overall health. If you would like to find out the proper way to floss, be sure to click here.
