Our last post introduced bad breath and the common causes. In part 2 of our series on bad breath, we are going to discuss some of the oral health issues that could lead to bad breath.

Bad breath may be symptomatic of other problems. If you experience bad breath even after regular brushing and flossing, it may mean there is a serious health issue.

Some oral health conditions that have been associated with bad breath include:

Throat or oral cancer

Cavities

Infected root canal

Gum disease

Strep throat

Food trapped in tonsils

Some non-oral health issues may be:

Diabetes

HIV

Liver disease

Lung infection

Lung disease

Acid reflux

Get Into a Dental Hygiene Routine

Your dental hygiene habits and routines are critical to keeping your mouth healthy and breath fresh. Brush and floss every day, and do not forget to brush your tongue, roof of your mouth or gums. Using mouthwash provides short-term relief for bad breath, but it is not a substitute for brushing and flossing.
