Continuing from our last blog we look at more links between osteoporosis and your oral health.

An additional concern is periodontitis. Periodontitis is an oral disease which causes problems in your gums and jaw bones. Both of which keep your teeth in place. Due to osteoporosis it is possible that you are more likely to have periodontitis. The reason for this is due to minimized bone density and an increase of bacteria. This being said, we are still unsure if there is a direct link between periodontitis and osteoporosis.

The Periodontal Associates of Jackson are firm believers that an improvement in overall bone health will lead to a healthier mouth. Due to this we will often recommend treatment options to increase bone health. These options can include Laser Assisted New Attachment Procedure (LANAP). To go along with your treatment strategy a good diet that has plenty of calcium and Vitamin D, working out on a regular basis, and cutting alcohol and tobacco usage out of your life will improve your oral health. The final, and perhaps best option, to avoid periodontitis is to ensure you are practicing correct dental care at home.

If you would like to learn more about LANAP please contact us today to schedule an appointment at our location near Jackson, MS.
