Oral Cancer Pt. 1 | Screening Options By Roger B. Parkes, DMD on October 30, 2017

Did you know that oral cancer is one of the deadliest forms of cancer? Luckily, if detected early on, it is treatable and can be cured. Those who catch it developing early enough can do well during treatment.

Statistics have shown that one person in the United States dies from oral cancer every hour. But spotting oral cancer does not even take this long and you can begin treatment immediately

There are two main types of screening options for detecting oral cancer. The first is called OralCDx. OralCDx can spot any abnormal cells in your mouth that could possibly form into cancer. The other common screening option is called Vizilite Plus. This screening method detects soft tissue in your mouth that can turn to cancer. These two screenings are widely available and can be done on a regular basis.

Things such as tobacco use and alcohol consumption can increase your risk of oral cancer. Smoking and drinking are not the only things that can lead to oral cancer, however, and, in our next post, we will discuss some other common causes of oral cancer and what signs you should watch for.
