Periodontal Disease and it’s Connection to Cardiovascular Disease By Roger B. Parkes, DMD on February 18, 2016

There have been numerous reports regarding periodontal disease being one of the causes of cardiovascular disease. Researches believe there is a link due to the bacteria in your mouth that causes periodontal disease. This disease passes through the bloodstream and causes a spike in the inC-reactive protein. The reason why this is so important is because these proteins are a marker for the inflammation of blood vessels which increases the risk for heart disease.

Oral hygiene is a very important factor in your overall health. Brushing and flossing regularly will help to avoid periodontal disease and hopefully a heart attack. Not only do you need to brush and floss but have regular check-ups. All of these things combined could assist in the betterment of your overall health. Call the Periodontal Associates at their dental office in Jackson, MS for a complete check-up to assess all of the risk factors such as age, smoking and the overall health of the patient.

Also any one who is diagnosed with periodontal disease should tell their Primary Care Physician or Cardiologist.
